When asked, "what do you want to be when you grow up", my answer was always, “I just want to see new things and travel the world.” My parents were not big on my plan to travel the world alone, so I obtained a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. I worked in patient care settings for over 25 years, however; my passion, and personal therapy, has always been travel. My husband and I have traveled throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, and even Ireland. We have taken our two girls on vacations as often as possible. We believe that seeing different cultures and landmarks are more important than giving them tangible items. Those are memories that they will always cherish. Travel is what excites me and makes my life complete.
If I were to offer just one piece of advice to someone new to travel, it would be this: There is no right or wrong way to do things…from packing to developing your itinerary. I can offer you advice, but you should experience it the way you want to, and don't be rigid in a plan. See all that you can see and breathe it all in! I survived a trip where my husband forgot to pack my clothes in the suitcase. It will all work out!
I am often asked if there was once place that I have traveled that changed me as a person. I have so many travels that have changed me, so it’s really hard to narrow that down to one specific destination. Every time that I see the ocean, I feel centered and at peace. A trip that really challenged me was the first time that we went to Costa Rica. My husband and I went out alone with a guide. We rappelled, zip-lined, swung through waterfalls, etc. It was a whole day of being out in the rainforest. I did things that I never thought that I would be able to do. My husband might have had to push me a bit, but I did it! Our trip to Ireland was another vacation that I feel changed me as well. My father has always discussed Ireland and how our family has roots there. It was a dream come true to be able to see the land he had described to me.
What is your favorite destination movie? Mine is The Hangover. What is better than a weekend in Vegas?! Whether you are looking for a quick weekend jaunt, a bachelor party destination, a honeymoon, or a family vacation – I’d love to help you plan the perfect getaway!
